Giving Fund

Your Daffodil Giving Fund is a donor-advised fund sponsored by Daffodil Charitable, a Denver CO based 501(c)(3) organization. Giving Funds are subject to fees to cover various capabilities, as explained below.

Granting & Disbursements

Disbursements are queued up as grant recommendations by donors. Any nonprofits already participating on Daffodil’s Impact Network will receive their grant electronically. Others will be vetted for compliance and ability to receive funding. Disbursement for theses organizations will be attempted electronically at first, and fall back to paper check as needed.

Monthly Commitment

Daffodil is designed around monthly commitments, an automated distribution of a donor’s projected annual charitable intent. The commitment is variable and can be changed at any time. Donors can adjust their monthly giving across the Discovery Fund or Direct Grant allocations (see below).

Discovery Fund

Discovery Fund allocation is optional. The recommended minimum to allocate for Discovery Fund, but can be adjusted down to $0.

The Discovery Fund powers matchmaking and provides discoverability for donors who want to learn about giving opportunities. Daffodil’s network contains verified and participating nonprofits of all different sizes and mission areas from across the United States, and will be matched via the Discovery Fund according to the donor priorities, cause areas, and geographic preferences.

Example: Jane selects animal welfare (cause area) and Colorado (geographic area) as her charitable priorities. Her Discovery Fund commitment is $1000/month. Every month, her $1000 gift is distributed to Daffodil’s network of high-impact animal welfare nonprofits in Colorado. She receives regular impact data showing the results of her investment and learns about organizations she would not have known about otherwise. She decides to designated a few of these she is most aligned with as Direct Grants going forward.

Direct Grants

Direct Grants are monthly contributions to specific nonprofits selected by the donor. Each monthly allocation includes zero or more direct grants, with funds distributed equally among selected organizations. The amount per organization is calculated by subtracting Discovery Fund allocation from your total monthly commitment, divided equally by number of direct grants, rounded down to the nearest cent. You can modify your selected nonprofits at any time.

Example: Tom’s monthly giving is $250. He directs $100 to the Discovery Fund to support high-impact nonprofits in his cause areas. The remaining $150 of his monthly giving budget is equally distributed to Nonprofit A, Nonprofit B, and Nonprofit C, each receiving $50 a month. All giving happens on the same date every month. Tom receives structured impact data reporting and progress towards outcome as part of his monthly commitment. He can change his monthly giving, direct grants, or priorities at any time.

Daffodil Charitable Fee Overview

Daffodil Charitable offers significantly lower administration fees to cover expenses of operating the portion of a DAF that’s not being allocated for charitable distributions. This fee covers the cost of operating the custodial systems, brokerage integrations, account statements and general support.

Daffodil Charitable levies an Impact Enablement fee on all disbursements at the time of processing. This fee covers the expense of grant administration, nonprofit support, nonprofit impact analysis, impact reporting, and grant disbursement processing.

The low cost administration fees coupled with the Impact Enablement fee allows Daffodil Charitable to separate the concerns of both fee types, and incentivize all parties around charitable discovery and disbursement to nonprofits ready to put capital to impactful work. Separating Impact Enablement from administration fees allows Daffodil Charitable reduce the burden of nonprofits, and highlight impactful nonprofits that may have otherwise gone undiscovered.

Daffodil Charitable is not a brokerage and does not charge investment fees. If funds are invested, investment fees may be set and collected on behalf of the underlying brokerage or actively managing advisor. By default, funds grow in a money market fund, fee free.
